3D Film Parts

Questions, answered.

Straight answers about our parts, our files, and getting gear to your door. Written by the people who print them.

STL files and design policy

Can I buy the STL file?

No. And it's the most common question we get, so here's the full answer.

We're a physical product business. Every part is designed in-house and printed on our own machines in our Melbourne workshop, then shipped ready to bolt straight onto your rig. The STL file is not the product. The finished, tested, production-spec part is the product.

Our design files are the entire intellectual property of this business. Selling a file once would mean giving away everything that makes these parts worth buying. So the answer is no, at any price, and it's nothing personal.

I've got my own printer. Can I just buy the file?

We get it. We run Bambu Lab printers ourselves and they're great machines.

But a home print of our geometry is not the same part. Our production parts are a specific material spec, with print settings tuned over hundreds of iterations. That combination is what survives life on a working set.

Your printer will get you close on the shape. It won't replicate the finish or the material spec. That difference is exactly what the product is.

I swear I'll never share it. Can we do a deal?

We believe you. Genuinely.

But this isn't a personal trust issue, it's structural. The moment a file exists outside our workshop, we have zero control over where it goes next. One file, shared once with one trusted friend, is all it takes for a design to be everywhere.

Because we can't make exceptions safely, we don't make them at all. The answer has to be the same for everyone.

You don't ship to my country. Can you send the file instead?

We ship to more than 30 countries and we're always working to add more. If yours isn't on the list yet, or import duties make ordering painful, we're genuinely sorry. That's frustrating and we know it.

But shipping coverage and design files are two separate things. Not being able to ship somewhere is not a reason to hand over the designs. If you're in an unsupported region, email us. Sometimes we can find a carrier option, and your message helps us decide which countries to add next.

Do you give any designs away for free?

Yes, plenty. We publish free designs on our MakerWorld profile: community designs, utility prints and open-source contributions, free to download and print at home.

If we want to give something away, that's where it goes. The commercial catalogue stays in the workshop.

Orders and shipping

When will my order ship?

Orders are processed Monday to Friday from our Melbourne workshop.

Order before 1:00pm AEST and your parts ship within 3 business days, usually the next business day. You'll receive tracking by email the moment your order is on its way.

How long does delivery take?

Typical delivery times once your order ships:

Australia (Express): 1 to 2 business days
New Zealand and SE Asia: 3 to 7 business days
USA and Canada: 5 to 10 business days
UK and Europe: 5 to 12 business days
South America: 10 to 15 business days

Every order ships with tracking via Australia Post.

Do US or Canadian customers pay import duties?

No. We prepay all US and Canadian import duties before your parcel leaves Australia — the cost is included in your shipping rate at checkout, so the price you see is the price you pay. No surprise charges at the door.

For other countries, local customs may charge import fees on arrival — these are the customer's responsibility. See what changed on 1 July.

Where do you ship from?

Everything ships from our workshop in Melbourne, Australia via Australia Post. We design, print, finish and pack in the same building, so there's no third-party warehouse between us and your order.

Products and support

Are your products genuine brand parts?

No. 3D Film Parts is an independent Australian brand.

Our products are designed for compatibility with the gear named in each listing, and they do not include any manufacturer logos or branding unless clearly stated. If a listing says it fits your rig, it fits. It just isn't made by the original manufacturer, and we never pretend otherwise.

Are the parts 3D printed?

Yes, and we're proud of it. Every part is manufactured on our own machines using high-quality 3D printing, with the material and settings chosen for each part's job.

Minor surface variation is part of the process and doesn't affect performance. Most customers are surprised by how good the finish is when the part lands in their hands.

Do you offer custom parts?

Yes. Custom work is a big part of what we do.

If you need something specific, send us the details of your setup: camera body, accessories, measurements, and photos if you have them. We'll tell you honestly what's possible and what it will cost. Start on our Custom Designs page.
