SmartLog: free camera reports for film & TV

Built with working ACs and DPs, and full of the small quality-of-life touches other reporting apps skip. No account. No subscription. Works fully offline, and your data never leaves your device.

SETUP: THEMES, LIVE TIMECODE AND YOUR WHOLE PRODUCTION · THE TAKE FORM: CAMERA B TAGGED, SHOT S2, INT / NIGHT, ONE-TAP COOKE S4/i LENS KIT
The Report tab on an iPad in landscape. SmartLog cuts one camera report per camera and roll, here A cam on roll A012 and B cam on roll B007, each with scene, shot, take, timecode in and out, per-take frame rate (48 fps on the insert), stops in tenths like T2 (3/10), filters, ISO, colour temp, tint, shutter and rig. The circled take number is a good take; the struck red row is a false take. One tap prints it or saves the PDF.
What it does
- Take logging with a fast entry form: slate, shot and take, optics, exposure, rig and notes.
- A camera picker with 79 bodies covering every Netflix-approved camera, drones included. Pick your body and the recording format and codec fill themselves.
- 30 lens sets from studio primes to cine zooms and anamorphics, ready as one-tap chips.
- Multi-cam ready: set how many cameras are on the job, give each its own camera model, and tag every take A / B / C with one tap.
- US and UK slating conventions: lead with scene / take or slate / take, whichever way your crew works.
- Fine-tuned detail most reporting apps skip: tint, per-take frame rate, shot / slate numbers, interior / exterior and day / night, and rig (dolly, steadicam, gimbal, drone).
- A stop slider that reads in tenths, exactly like the ARRI viewfinder: T2.8 (3/10).
- Paper-style camera reports, exported as PDF straight from your phone.
- CSV and JSON export that opens in any spreadsheet or DIT and reporting software.
- Time-of-day timecode, and frame-accurate LTC jam from any timecode box through the audio input.
- Kit and preset system: your lenses, filters, ISO, colour temp, shutter and aspect ratios, one tap away.
- Dark and light themes, adjustable text size, and your choice of font.
- Everything stored on your own device. No sign-up, no cloud, no tracking.

from the makers of the digital slate
SmartLog is built by 3D Film Parts, the team behind the 3D-printed Digital Slate. The app is free for everyone, and a future update will let it pair with the slate so the hard half of every take (scene, take, real clap timecode and a slate-frame photo) writes itself.
what's new
Build 2026-07-23
- New slating convention setting in Setup: US (scene / take) or UK (slate / take). UK mode leads with the slate number on the take form, in the log and across reports and PDF; scene steps back but is always logged.
- SmartLog picks a sensible default from your device region on first run, and you can switch any time. Handy for teaching both conventions side by side.
- Same data captured either way: CSV, JSON, imports and merges are identical in both modes.
- Thanks to Aram Atkinson for the request.
Build 2026-07-22g
- Multi-camera setups: with two or more cameras on the job, the camera + glass card in Setup gets A / B / C tabs, and each camera keeps its own model, format and codec (a Komodo as A camera, a Venice as B, and so on).
- The A / B / C buttons on the take form now show each camera's name, like A · KOMODO 6K, so tagging the right camera is one obvious tap.
- Camera reports, PDF and CSV now carry each camera's own body, format and codec on its report.
- New production company field in Setup, printed on reports and exports.
- Thanks to Yadiel Barreto for the requests.
Build 2026-07-22f
- Bug fix: tapping a camera letter (or any kit button) now shows a clear selected highlight, and typing a matching value lights its button too.
- Bug fix: the camera letter row sits on its own line, fixing a layout misalignment on phones.
- Found during a developer bug-hunting pass.
Build 2026-07-22e
- Bug fix: each tab now remembers its own scroll position instead of sharing one.
- Notes moved up the take form, straight after the slate fields.
- Multi-cam: set how many cameras are on the job in Setup and get one-tap A / B / C buttons on every take.
- Thanks to Alex, sound recordist (Melbourne), for the bug report and the requests.
Build 2026-07-22d
- Lens sets expanded to 30, now covering primes, cine zooms and anamorphics: ARRI Signature, Cooke miniS4/i and Anamorphic/i, Angenieux Optimo, Fujinon MK and Premista, Sigma Cine, Canon CN-E and CN-R primes, Canon Cine Zooms and RF L series, Sony G Master, DJI DL, NiSi, Sirui and more.
- DJI Ronin 4D 6K and 8K added to the camera picker.
Build 2026-07-22c
- Camera list expanded to 77 bodies across ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Blackmagic, Panavision and DJI, covering the full Netflix-approved list plus the Sony FX3 and FX30 and Canon C50 and C400. Requested by Michael, DOP, Melbourne.
Build 2026-07-22b
- Shot / slate number field on every take, with its own report column.
- Rig / movement per take: one-tap chips for dolly, steadicam, gimbal, crane, slider, drone and more.
- The stop slider now reads in tenths like the ARRI viewfinder: T2.8 (3/10). Typed values and chips still work.
- Thanks to camera assistant Angel Sukma (Indonesia) for the requests.
Build 2026-07-22
- New take-form fields: tint, interior/exterior, day/night, and per-take frame rate.
- Recording-format presets (DCI 17:9, 16:9 and more) in Setup.
- Type your own lens names in the lens field.
- Fixed fields getting cut off on wider screens; the kit options now wrap to fit.
- Bolder, clearer bottom navigation.
- Opens in light mode by default.
- Added a direct Download button, a download counter, and this changelog.
